Overall objective of the project „Amusement Tourism Development Strategy“ is creating a foundation for further sustainable economic development and strengthening of tourism in Hungary-Croatia border region. Specific objective is preparation of the documentation for the development of amusement parks in the cross-border region, as a tool for sustainable development and economic growth.

How the idea for the project is developed?

City of Koprivnica and Lake Balaton Development Coordination Agency recognize tourism as a rich potential that can significantly contribute to the economic development of the area in which they operate.

Lake Balaton is an important tourist center in Hungary, thus it is in the focus of activities of the Lake Balaton Development Coordination Agency. On the other hand, although with rather modest tourist capacities, the City of Koprivnica wants to improve its tourist offer through the development of new forms of tourism infrastructure.

Tourism and related amusement industry are one of the fastest growing industries. On the other hand, favorable geographical position and lack of similar competitive infrastructure in the near surroundings speak in favor of the idea that the cross-border region develops new tourism infrastructure with a unique concept of entertainment.

Project results:

Two studies with content relevant to each of the project partners (research on the acceptance of the project, market potentials analysis, goals for the development of parks through positioning on the market) are created. Also, strategy of the amusement tourism is also created.

The theme of food and tradition of the food industry in Koprivnica led to the idea for the development of the Family entertainment center whose main backbone will be food and gastronomy, and the content is based on the history and culture of food, as well as the science and technology associated with the food. The developed project through this study leans on the concept of "leisure - economy - education" and contributes to the development of each of these sectors simultaneously.

The Hungarian study is created in a different direction than the Croatian project partners. The study has provided an independent evaluation of the advantages and disadvantages of Lake Balaton about the possibilities of developing new amusement-tourism infrastructure. The different forms of entertainment and tourist infrastructure such as amusement or water park, family entertainment center, zoo, etc. were analised. The analysis is done in the context of attracting new tourists, working places and revenue growth.
